Taking the plunge

Like most days in the Scott family household, we strongly encouraged Josiah to go poop on the toilet--after much releasing of bodily gas. What does this have to do with our first blog post? And why would anyone even care to read about our children's bowel movements? Believe it or not, these two seemingly odd events ARE related!

You see, Josiah
had a STRONG fear of pooping in the toilet. Peeing in the big boy toilet--no problem. But pooping--never. It was as if he was releasing a part of his very own being into the abyss that lay below him. How could he let go of part of himself? He cried. He whined. He pouted. He even screamed and threw many of flailing-arm-and-hitting-tantrums. For almost a year, he did anything he could to NOT put his poop in the toilet, but in his diaper during naps. It was a long (& still is) battle! Until one day, he just mustered up enough courage, mustered up enough bravery, and PLOP, out it came. So this is where our blog journey begins. Bryan and I have talked about starting a blog for many years--but never. Give up our time? Open up our lives? Will anyone even read this? We've tossed around names. We've even talked about themes. But nothing. Until today. I finally took the plunge, just like Josiah. I mustered up enough courage to start.
So welcome to our blog. Welcome to life with the Scotts. Welcome to seeing two people in desperate need of Jesus parent two little souls--also in need of God. Welcome to seeing what life is like raising children in New York City--hence the name, Growing Up New York. Not only are Bryan and I raising world-changers, but we are raising new yorkers. What an awesome privilege the Lord has given us.
